The Big X-Oh Birthday Celebration
That's right folks, this is one of the big ones for me (Vicki Pelton).
You just have to figure out which "X" it is (i.e., which decade).
If you already know, ssssh, don't tell. I'll be doing a few things to
celebrate & would like to invite you to join in the festivities. My
birthday is a good time for me to reflect on all the wonderful things
I've had the opportunity to do in my life so far. I thought it would be
great fun to share some of my activities with my friends. Read on to find
out what's in store.

Planting Native Plants
I'm a member of the California Native Plant Society, (CNPS),
and participate in the gardening with natives (GWN)
section. I thought it would be wonderful to plant some native plants in
a public area so that other people may also enjoy the things that are
important to me. I'll be joining other volunteers with Acterra
in El Palo Alto Park (at Alma St. & Palo Alto Ave. in Palo
Alto) to help restore San Francisquito Creek by planting natives. It would
be wonderful if you'd care to join me. We will work from 9:30 am to
12:30 pm. Bring water, sturdy shoes & long pants. They supply
tools & gloves. I'll bring some goodies to eat to add to the celebration.
Directions from north of Palo Alto: From El Camino Real in Menlo Park,
turn NE (towards the bay) onto Ravenswood, then right onto Alma St. Park
at the cul-de-sac at the end. Walk across the foot bridge to the park.
Directions from Palo Alto and South: Go NW on Alma St. Just as it turns
left to connect with El Camino Real, turn right onto Palo Alto Ave. and
park.
Rain cancels (check back here for replacement date) but drizzle does
not. If in doubt, on the day of the event, call Phil Chang on his cell
phone (415)290-2983. No need to RSVP, but if you have questions, contact
me, Vicki Pelton (650)368-2510.

The Big X-Oh Birthday Party & Cookie Making
Then on to the birthday party. We'll start with a pot luck dinner at
6:00 pm. Bring whatever food you want. After dinner you can just
relax & talk with your friends; however, for those so inclined, I'll
have some cookie dough ready for rolling. You can choose from my collection
of 100 cookie cutters to make cookies to your heart's content. Sprinkles,
etc. will also be available for your artistic impulses. You can then take
your cookies home to share with your friends. No presents, please; just
bring food. The party is at my house in Redwood City. Email (or
call) for address/directions. No need to RSVP, but if you have questions,
contact me, Vicki Pelton
(650)368-2510. Rain does NOT cancel this party.

(Was: Sunday, 15 December 02, 9:30 am)
The Big X-Oh Birthday Bicycle Ride
C/3/50 (moderate pace, some hills, 50 miles)
Don't let the miles fool you when guessing the "X". Since I'm
a member of the bicycle club Western
Wheelers, I thought it would be fun to have a birthday ride with my
bicycling friends. Both singles & coupled types are equally welcome
this time (i.e., this is not a singles ride). We'll meet at Gunn H.S.
in Palo Alto (on Arastradero just east of Foothill) at 9:30 am
and ride up Alameda de las Pulgas, climb Crestview, then down into Hillsborough
to climb Santa Inez & Black Mountain. We'll then have lunch at the
Crystal Springs Golf Course, which has indoor & outdoor seating, a
great view & sandwiches for $6-ish (bring or buy). We'll return down
Skyline/Canada.
I'll have goodies to eat after the ride. There will be a shortcut for
those who want to skip Inez/Black Mountain & shorten the ride by 6
miles. No need to RSVP, but if you have questions, contact me, Vicki
Pelton (650)368-2510. Rain cancels ride (check back here for replacement
date).
